What is this supposed to mean exactly?

I'm clearly an idiot--could someone explain this to me?

Heh. I probably should have anticipated some puzzlement.

Let me just say that Soon to be Jaded Dissertator's cartoons aren't always (or usually?) the kind with a punchline--i.e., the sort of thing you *get*. They're more about appreciating the atmosphere or tone. . . .

I thought in captured phil-bots that were working in the areas of mind, ME, and history being hung in nooses--a form of commentary about experiencing the job market.

I am far more interested in the meaning of the internal viewer. Why a cat? Why the pince-nez? Does s/he represent the Jaded Dissertator? I think not. Does s/he represent the SCs of the various jobs to which the artist is applying? The advisor, or perhaps the dissertation committee as a whole? Is s/he viewing the action of the hanging through a window, or a framed photograph of the action which has already taken place. In which case does the drawing represent the future of the Jaded Dissertator, say in April 2008, rather than the current situation? And of course, it must be important that the Mind and History bots are of the same construction, while M&E is of a different type. And then there is the belt buckle... Ahhh, so many layers of meaning, so little time.

I'm printing out a copy tomorrow and hanging it in my office. I'll hopefully resist the temptation to tell people I drew it.

The cat is supposed to be the personification of the evil that is the phil job market, no?

Looks like a nod to the evil Catbert as well.

Oops; the copyright infringement is purely coincidental (or subliminal [those Sunday comics seep into your brain]; and that's about all you'll be getting out of me about the cartoon).

Looks like in addition to dealing with the market in a year or two, I'll also be battling plagiarism charges in court (or maybe that's for PGS to worry about?).

Ah so, this isn't the first time my love of kittehs has gotten me in trouble.

Oh, I had quite a different interpretation, perhaps because someone in my program killed themselves recently after finishing their dissertation.
